Outcomes evaluation of Optima's Maths Challenge Programme

Secondary school mathematics participation and performance have long been identified as a major risk to the development of the skills and knowledge required to meet the demand for science and technology in the South African economy. This outcomes evaluation, undertaken by Kelello Consulting, documents the evolution of the Maths Challenge Programme from 2010 to 2025, the learnings over fifteen years of implementation. The results validate the importance of early intervention to address maths backlogs that negatively affect learners in under-resourced schools.
